20 April 2016: Today, John Stamellos from Camberwell High School was presented with the very first Broadband Solutions’ Innovators of Tomorrow Scholarship. The award, valued at $5,000 was created to offer support to students who are challenging the status quo or who are striving to make a positive difference to the world around them through innovative vision in technology or science. The scholarship was presented by Sam Bashiry, Managing Director of Broadband Solutions and the Honourable John Pesutto MP, Member for Hawthorn.
“It’s fantastic to see students solving problems. John’s innovative thinking has seen him set up a system for live streamed assemblies across campus, develop a school TV program and build a information display system,” said Sam Bashiry, Managing Director of Broadband Solutions.
“All of John’s projects were undertaken to improve the school and in turn improve the learning environment for other students. This is what innovation is about.”
The scholarship was developed to shine a light on the importance of education in innovation. Local member, Mr. John Pesutto MP, praised the program and it’s first winner: “Programs such as these are vital to encourage the leaders of tomorrow to seek leadership and make a difference in their world. Congratulations to the two students who will each receive a $5000 scholarship and I wish them all the very best in their continued education.“
The attendance of Mr. Pesutto was praised my Mr. Bashiry: “It’s really great to see local leaders interested in and supporting the innovations of the local youth. I am so thankful for people like John Pesutto who show support for these kinds of awards. Support from community leaders can inspire young people to have a real go at changing the status quo. It helps them realise that their ideas matter,” said Mr. Bashiry
“Innovation comes from the work done on the ground floor. The ideas that have the biggest impact come from the people who are trying to make the world around them a better place. That’s why we need to ensure our youth have the skills and resources to implement their ideas,” said Mr. Bashiry.
John Stamellos was the first of two winners to presented their scholarship. The second will receive their award later this year.
